SUMMARY:Trauma Sensitive Schools Virtual Learning Series - Module 1
DESCRIPTION:Register for the 5-day Trauma Sensitive Schools series. \nRegister for the Trauma Sensitive Schools Trainer Cohort. \nMore than two of three children report exposure to at least one traumatic event by the age of 18. Exposure to trauma in childhood may have a lasting impact on the well-being and functioning of students and their families. By understanding how trauma impacts students and adopting a trauma-informed approach\, educators can play a crucial role in mitigating both the short- and long- term effects of trauma. This interactive workshop will leave educators with a renewed commitment to reach some of the most vulnerable students and their families. Objectives : Participants will: Understand the term child traumatic stress and know what types of experiences constitute childhood trauma. Understand the impact of trauma on the brain development and behavior of children. Learn how the impact of traumatic stress can be prevented and/or mitigated by use of trauma-informed responses and strategies. Identify “secondary traumatic stress” and learn strategies for taking care of you Describe a framework for creating a “trauma-informed” culture.

DESCRIPTION:Register for the Trauma Sensitive Schools Trainer Cohort. \nThe Trauma Sensitive Schools professional learning curriculum is a composition of five modules related to trauma; how trauma manifests in the classroom; the neurobiology of trauma and resilience; effective strategies to assist students experiencing the effects of trauma; understanding secondary effects of trauma; and creating a trauma-informed school culture. By becoming a trainer of this curriculum\, educators can assist their schools in ensuring all educators have an opportunity to understand trauma and how to support students and families exposed to trauma. \nObjectives: \n\nDeliver TSS curriculum with confidence\,\nUnderstand how to access the ND Trainers Network\,\nAccess trauma related resources\,\nPromote the TSS curriculum.\n\nRequirements to become a TSS trainer include: \n\nParticipation in the Trauma Sensitive Schools professional learning series June 24-28 with completion of accompanying Notes Catcher\,\nCompletion of Independent Study Log\, diving deep into the structure of the professional learning curriculum\,\nParticipation in a cohort resource review August 5th\,\nCompletion of a teach-back session to gain positive feedback from peers on content delivery.\n\nTrauma Sensitive Schools was created and disseminated in partnership with Nexus-PATH\, the Central Region Education Association\, and the Department of Public Instruction.
